  • deep concern for his well being
  • financial support

v8 – Paul’s affection for Philippians

v9 – Paul prays for the philippians to love more and mentions growing in knowledge and discernment.

  • ESV study bible words this as “so the philippians would find expression in wise actions that would truly benefit others and glorify God”
  • As we mature and grow in our faith, our understanding of what it means to follow Jesus increases.
  • A pastor I know says often to learn to discern the voice of the Lord. The Lord has a voice and we can all agree remembering His word is a great practice to remember what His voice sounds like.

v10 – approve what is excellent, and be pure and blameless for the day of Christ (when Christ returns or we are united with him when we die).

  • joyful obedience brings confidence that we will be pure and blameless
  • the only reason we can be considered pure and blameless is through Jesus’s power and the sacrifice and resurrection he did.

v11 – filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus to the glory and praise of God.

  • This fruit of righteousness does not come through our own power but ONLY through Jesus
  • The result of the fruit of righteousness is the glory and praise of God.
